I have been wanting to get some chickens for quite a while. Jeremy and I have talked about it. This spring we decided that it was time. Jeremy got the supplies to build a chicken coop for a really good price. He did a fantastic job!

Avery and I set up the box that we will keep the little chicks in until they are old enough to go out in their coop for Family Home Evening last night. By the end of the evening there was a generous sprinkling of shavings all around the box. Avery is so excited to get some, "
Avey chickens," as he has been referring to them.

We went down today and picked up six little chicks, three
araucanas and three gold sex links. Jeremy talked to a guy at the D&B and these are the ones that he said were good. The
araucana chickens will lay colored eggs.
Avery did not want to put the box down. When we got in the car he was upset that I would not let him hold the chick box on the way home.

When we got them in their box he did not want to do anything other than sit and watch and touch the chicks. I had to drag him away so that I could feed him lunch. I thought I would have a hard time putting him down for a nap, but luckily all the little chicks were also taking a nap, so it was not as difficult as I suspected.
